Hocking Hills Winter Hike

Our scouts participated in the annual Hocking Hills winter hike on January 15th.  The weather was just right- a nice coating of snow on the ground, but not too cold.  The hike was about seven miles, and started at the main entrance to Old Man’s Cave.  Our scouts did well, and hiked most of the seven mile stretch.  The ice formations against the backdrop of the rock formations of the cave areas were a sight to behold.

Camp Buro with Scout Troop 121

The WEBELOS II den and one scout from the WEBELOS I den camped with Scout Troop 121 at the Kiwanis Cabin at Camp Buro in Lancaster, Ohio over the weekend of December 11th. The camp is situated in a hollow not far from the old Central Ohio Council Camp Ki-Y-Ro, between Lancaster and Amanda. Scoutmaster Mike O’Reilly and one of his assistant scoutmasters cooked outstanding food for the overnight camp. Saturday evening the scouts attended Christmas at Ash Cave, which involved a hike, a band playing Christmas music, and hot chocolate for all. Sunday morning as we were departing the camp we were met with a winter storm.

Popcorn Selling Season!

Scout Popcorn StackedIt’s that time of year again, time for our annual popcorn sales.  Proceeds from the sale of popcorn help boys get to summer camp and do other things throughout the year that add so much to their Scouting experience.  Remember that 70% of the proceeds from the sales come back to Simon Kenton Council to support our local Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops.

Popcorn packaging this year has been redesigned, and some new products have been added to the lineup.  If you’re a Cub Scout or WEBELOS, contact your den leader for an order form.  If you’re wanting to purchase popcorn to support Scouting, you can visit the popcorn website and make your purchase there.  Please remember to specifiy our complete unit number: Cub Scout Pack 3121 so we get credit for your purchase!

Also chartered at West Jefferson United Methodist Church is Boy Scout Troop 121 for boys from sixth grade up to and including age 18.  Troop 121 has a long list of boys who have earned the Eagle Scout Award, the highest award in Boy Scouts.

Summer Camp at Camp Lazarus

Several of the boys from our pack attended resident summer camp at Camp Lazarus this year, held July 7th – 11th, 2010.  Chirstopher McGarey and Steven Stultz helped out in the “Bob” cabin in the Exchange Lodge at camp, staying overnight with the boys and helping the camp counselers.  Camp activities included archery, BB gun shooting, swimming, creeking, a parents’ night with skits by all units, and lots of good food in the dining hall.  The WEBELOS II boys worked on their scout skills like tent pitching, axmanship, proper knife handling, and knot tying while working as individual patrols.  The WEBELOS I boys stayed just as busy with their programs.
